446th BS War Diary: Group mission 121, Sqdn 96 composed of 12 planes. Lt. Axson led the Group and 500 lb bombs were dropped on the road junction at Ariano Irpino. The first elements to drop their bombs on the target, but the third element could not distinguish the target and did not drop their bombs.

446th BS War Diary: Lt. Ralph Axson, S/Sgt Foley, S/Sgt. Miles, and S/Sgt. Ludwig finished fifty missions.

Sunday, 7 November 1943

446th BS War Diary: Another rainy day and no mission. Capt. Griffith, Capt. Backer, and Lt. Axson returned from a trip to Tunis and Oran where they have spent the last seven days.

Monday, 8 November 1943

446th BS War Diary: Capt. Griffith, Lt. Axson, T/Sgt. Foley, and S/Sgts. Brei, Ludwig, Mercuri, Miles, Sawyer, and Haresign were transferred to Port of Debarkation, USA.

Ralph's daughter, Mari Axson Armstrong, recently purchased a brick in honor of her father to be used in the construction of a War Memorial in his hometown of St. Matthews, South Carolina.
