The 489th
Bombardment Squadron in Corsica
Photographs from S/Sgt. Russell J. Callahan of the 489th Bomb Squadron provided by his son, Tom Callahan
Planes, Part 20

Captain L.E. Bulkeley (painted on A/C in this photo) and Captain J.G. Bauer (pictured with this A/C in the
489th BS Book) were flight leaders for this lead plane in the 489th squadron. John H. Cameron was the
crew chief and Russell Callahan worked on the ground crew as an expert mechanic. My dad, Quentin Kaiser,
flew 2 missions in the aircraft.

This is S/Sgt. Russell J. Callahan of the 489th BS standing beside a B-25 named "Slow Time."
"Slow Time" had a reputation for breaking in new engines in the 489th squadron, logging more hours
for that than for combat missions.

This is Russell Callahan's Field Service Diploma presented by North American Aviation, manufacturer of the B-25 Mitchell medium bombers.

Front and back of a card sent from John Cameron to Russell Callahan.
Crew Chief John H. Cameron was Russell J. Callahan's good
friend and the two worked together on the same ground crew.

An unknown soldier and an unknown plane possibly transfered to the 340th BG from the 310th BG. I wonder how Russell Callahan
got this photo because the aircraft pictured appears to be from the 428th Squadron
of the 310th Bombardment Group. I suspect the plane was a loaner after nearly all the 340th planes were destroyed by the eruption
of Mount Vesuvius on March 22, 1944. "Slow Time" (see above), crewed by Cameron and Callahan was lost at Pompeii.

This is Russell Callahan's US Army Mechanics Diploma received on September 26, 1942.
