While waiting formal documentation I'll explain how documenting nose art can be as interesting as finding information on a specific aircraft. First step was trying to find a WWII color photo showing the nose art. Since no one had a viable color photo other than two black and white photos at Terrance Coursen's site, I decided to search the web for WWII period era pin-up gals hoping for a color photograph. My first stop was Esquire magazine. After an exhaustive but entertaining search without any luck, I countinued searching for old Yank magazines which were extremely popular with the GI's. Low and behold here she was, Peggy Corday as she appeared on the back cover of "YANK" MAGAZINE, BRITISH EDITION "AIRBORNE OPERATIONS IN FRANCE"JULY 2, 1944. Here is a larger picture of Peggy. Since the elusive color photograph could not be found, I took some artistic liberty and placed her in a light blue nightgown. Should anyone have corrections to Peggy's nightgown please email us. |
