The mother Anna's Hummingbird.
By March 30th we noticed a small piece of an eggshell outside the nest indicating the eggs had finally hatched. I did not want to bother the mother or the baby hummingbirds so I didn't look inside or take any more photos until two tiny beaks and heads appeared over the top of the nest on April 5th.

Notice the small white eggshell stuck on the outside of the nest in these pictures.

To get an idea of the size of these baby hummingbirds, look at the ant that happens to be climbing up the underside of the stem beneath the nest. The baby hummingbird's beak isn't much longer than the ant.
